Over 1,500 IT decision makers have participated so far in ETR's October 2023 Technology Spending Intentions Survey (TSIS), including 269 from Fortune 500 and 376 from Global 2000 organizations. ETR's Research Team recently published the October 2023 Early Takeaways, leveraging preliminary data to examine sectors with improving/declining 2023 spending intent and initial forecasts for 2024 IT spending growth as well as inflections captured at the vendor level. This article highlights some of the takeaways from that report.
Midway through the TSIS survey period, ETR analyzes preliminary data highlighting the most significant changes compared to prior survey levels (July 2023). In this survey, no sectors show a statistically significant increase in Net Score survey-over-survey, while most have seen a significant decline. Container Orchestration, Database/Data Warehousing, and Robotic Process Automation are among the high Net Score sectors with the largest declines (see below).
Transitioning from sector to vendor-level data, the highest overall positioning continues to come from cloud giants like Microsoft and AWS with high Pervasion levels and resilient Net Scores. ServiceNow, Snowflake, and Figma also capture healthy Net Scores among the highest Pervasion vendors. However, OpenAI captures the highest vendor Net Score by a margin, followed by Databricks and Kubernetes. Meanwhile, the lowest Net Scores in the survey come from Mitel, Cyxtera, and Toshiba, with each sitting below negative 30%. Dropbox, Broadcom, Teradata, and Polycom hold some of the lowest Net Scores in the TSIS despite modestly greater Pervasion than other lower-performing peers.
The full Early Takeaways report has much greater detail on specific sectors and vendors, as well as capturing inflections and trends across all the vendors ETR tracks. Data from ETR's October 2023 Technology Spending Intentions Survey is tentatively scheduled to finalize on October 5th, at which point the ETR Research Team will prepare to publish related vendor, sector, and macro-level reports, as well as two webinars. The Macro Views Findings Webinar will be released on October 13th, and the full October 2023 TSIS Findings Webinar will be released on October 20th.
