As of press time, more than 1700 IT decision makers have already participated in ETR's January 2024 Technology Spending Intentions Survey (TSIS). ETR's Research and Analytics Team has already published the Early Takeaways report, leveraging preliminary data to examine sectors with improving/declining 2024 spending intent and inflections captured at the vendor level. This week we dive into higher level vendor trends.

Microsoft, AWS, and, to a lesser extent, Google continue to dominate the vendor landscape in terms of Pervasion. Of larger Pervasion vendors, ServiceNow and Kubernetes are also seeing strong Net Scores. OpenAI, Anthropic, Kubernetes, and Databricks boast the highest Net Scores in the TSIS this survey; Snowflake, ServiceNow, and AWS are other noteworthy, high-Net Score vendors. Meanwhile, BlueJeans and Toshiba hold the worst Net Scores in this iteration of the TSIS, with each sitting below -50%. Dropbox, Box, Polycom, Teradata, and GoTo hold some of the lowest Net Scores in the TSIS despite modestly greater Pervasion than other lower-performing peers.

Cloud giants Microsoft and Google are showing modest improvements vs. last year in Net Score, as are IBM and Oracle, though on weaker initial bases. DXC Technology and Meta (with the introduction of Meta Llama to the ML / AI sector) are seeing the sharpest increases in Net Score since last year. HashiCorp and Workday, while still holding relatively healthy Net Scores, are noteworthy vendors showing weaker spending intentions than last year; Twilio and Cloud Software Group are the other two vendors showing y/y decline.

Among vendors tracked in 2 sectors (not pictured), Okta and Datadog are notable vendors seeing material Net Score declines vs. last year. Several IT Services vendors are showing marked improvements, including Deloitte, Wipro, Unisys, and HCL. Of single-sector vendors, Sprout Social, Aqua, Celonis, Paycor, Flexential, Cyxtera, and BlueJeans are showing the largest deterioration in Net Score since last April. RPA leaders UiPath and Automation Anywhere are also both showing material declines.

Among larger citation vendors, Microsoft and AWS in the ML / AI sector are seeing the strongest y/y citation growth, followed by Azure Service Fabric in Container Orchestration and Adobe in Marketing. F5 Networks (Information Security), Dell Desktop, and ADP (Enterprise Apps) saw the largest y/y decline in citations among this larger-citation cohort.

Not pictured, Akamai saw the largest y/y citation growth of the vendor universe within the Cloud Computing sector (previously tracked as Linode), followed by TELUS (Data Center Colocation Services) and Wiz (Information Security). Similar to Microsoft and AWS, Google also saw considerable citation growth within the ML / AI sector.

Polling for ETR's January 2024 Technology Spending Intentions Survey is now complete, and the ETR Research Team will prepare to publish related vendor, sector, and macro-level reports, as well as two webinars, Macro Views Findings Webinar on January 12th and the full January TSIS Findings Webinar on January 19th.
